Nature`s Drawings is Oefner`s latest exploration of the boundaries between art and science. It`s a circular arrangement of eight different experiments, which create drawings driven by chemical and physical processes: For instance, electrical current shapes into fractal patterns, rusting iron under magnetic influence generates delicate structures and gun powder burns sound waves into paper. All experiments are connected in way that one experiment triggers the next one until the full circle of works is completed, creating eight unique drawings in the process.
„Nature`s Drawings“ is an expression of Oefner`s fascination for the beauty of chance. As he has often done so in past projects, he liberates himself from the need of a conscious search for color and composition by letting scientific phenomena define the shape and composition of his work. As an artist, Oefner only defines a framework, in which art can unfold. Similar to a musical conductor, Oefner carefully orchestrates his experiments until eventually, something extraordinary occurs.
