In this photographic series, Oefner puts again our perception of time and reality at the centre point of his research. The images show a distinct moment in time, the breaking of a clock, the shattering of a vase, mirrored infinitely towards the horizon.
The artist has captured these images through a semi-transparent glass plate into a custom-made mirror room. With this technique, Oefner has created works, that are remarkable on two different levels: In one single photograph, we are able to see the same object from all different angles. Much like a cubistic painting, the photographs are collages of multiple perspectives. The second aspect is even more striking. Because light is not infinitely fast, it takes a certain amount of time to travel from one mirror to the next. Therefore we dont really look at the same moment in time repeated over and over again, but as our view wanders from the front backwards towards the horizon, the moments we see gradually become older. We are therefore looking at the past and the present at the same time.
